This doctoral program encompasses four specialized pathways: Ancient History, Medieval Studies, Modern History, and Comparative and Contemporary History. It emphasizes an in-depth exploration of significant historical periods and themes, including the Roman Empire, ancient India, and the pre-medieval to medieval history of Hungary. Additionally, it examines the history and archaeology of the Eurasian Steppe, along with early modern Hungarian history and the sociopolitical dynamics of Habsburg and Ottoman relations.
The curriculum includes a broad range of research areas, such as cultural studies, paleography covering multiple languages, popular culture history, the evolution of political ideas, and historiographical analysis. This emphasis ensures a comprehensive understanding of contemporary social and political histories while fostering specialized research capabilities. Graduates of this program frequently secure prestigious fellowships in academia and research institutions, while others successfully pursue significant roles within government and educational sectors.
Applicants must possess a Graduate or Master's degree (or higher). The program is designed for individuals interested in contemporary historical research methods. Proficiency in both classical and modern languages, as well as a strong understanding of intercultural relations, is highly recommended.
