Germanic Studies BA (Specialization German as Ethnic Minority Language)

The aim of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge on the one hand in the core areas of German studies and on the other hand of the German-speaking minority in Hungary

Overview

Students specializing in German as a minority language also get to know the history, language usage, folk culture, and literature of the Hungarian Germans. A completed BA degree opens up numerous career prospects in various areas, e.g. in national and international companies, and entitles you to access a master’s degree.

Syllabus

• 1st semester: Einführung in die Minderheitenkunde, Sprache und Kultur der germanischen Völker.
• 2nd semester: Geschichte der Ungarndeutschen, Landeskunde deutschsprachiger Länder.
• 3rd semester: Materielle Kultur der Ungarndeutschen, Flexionsmorphologie, Deutsche Literatur und Kultur von der Frühen Neuzeit bis zur Klassik.
• 4th semester: Sprache der Ungarndeutschen, Lexikologie, Deutsche Literatur und Kultur von der Romantik bis zur Realismus.
• 5th semester: Syntax, Deutsche Sprachinseln in Ungarn, Deutsche Literatur und Kultur vom Naturalismus bis zur Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts.
• 6th semester: Literatur der Ungarndeutschen nach 1945, Sprachtypologie und kontrastive Linguistik.
