Study Hungarian Language and Culture Preparatory Programme_Humanities at University of Szeged
This preparatory program provides an immersive experience in the Hungarian language and culture, tailored for international students seeking to deepen their understanding of this unique cultural sphere. The curriculum encompasses a comprehensive study of Hungarian as a foreign language, available at five proficiency levels ranging from beginner to advanced. Language courses are offered with varying intensities, allowing for 2 to 8 hours of instruction per week, and the fall semester includes specific pronunciation practice sessions conducted in a language lab.
In addition to language acquisition, the program includes a range of lectures conducted in English that cover essential topics in Hungarian history, linguistics, and cultural studies. Areas of focus include Hungarian literature, film, art history, cultural geography, folklore, and music, enabling students to gain a well-rounded comprehension of the cultural context of the language.
The program begins with an orientation week designed to assist students in acclimating to their new academic environment. This includes addressing practical concerns and participating in cultural sensitization training, which prepares students to navigate and appreciate the local culture while also providing strategies for managing potential challenges related to cultural adjustment.
At the conclusion of the spring semester, participants have the opportunity to register at a reduced rate for a four-week intensive Summer University experience, also organized by the Hungarian Studies Center.
The program is designed for individuals interested in learning Hungarian as a foreign language and exploring Hungarian culture, particularly those who plan to study or work in Hungary in the future.
