The Doctoral School of Mathematics at the University of Szeged is designed to provide an in-depth academic framework over a duration of 2+2 years, where students engage in comprehensive studies across various mathematical disciplines. Candidates are required to complete a minimum of five courses drawn from a diverse curriculum, which includes core subjects such as Algebra, Theory of Measure and Integral, Topology, Discrete Mathematics, and Probability Theory. Additionally, the program features an extensive selection of basic and specialized courses, with lectures primarily conducted by faculty members from the Bolyai Institute, supplemented by occasional contributions from external experts.
The curriculum encompasses a wide range of critical areas within mathematics, including but not limited to Algebra, Analysis, Dynamical Systems, Geometry, Combinatorics, and Theoretical Computational Science, as well as Stochastics. Participants have the opportunity to explore numerous research areas, such as Semigroup Theory, Approximation Theory and Orthogonal Polynomials, Numerical Solutions, Computer Simulation of Dynamical Systems, Theoretical Computer Science, and Asymptotic Distributions in Probability Theory, focusing on domains of attraction and partial attraction.
Prospective students interested in the Doctoral Program in Mathematics must meet the following entry qualifications and application requirements:
Applicants from certain countries may not need to provide an English language exam certificate if they can show that their previous academic studies were conducted in English. To know more about eligible countries, contact Studygram.
If the medium of instruction for the MSc degree was English, a document from the issuing institution confirming this must be uploaded by the application deadline. If this document is absent, the Master's degree will not fulfill the language requirement and the application will be rejected.
Applicants should be interested in the research programs outlined on the university's website.
and to contact both the doctoral school and the prospective supervisor prior to submitting their application.
For students holding degrees from institutions outside the European Union, it is necessary for these diplomas to be acknowledged by the Hungarian Equivalence and Information Center (HEIC) before submitting a dissertation at the conclusion of the doctoral program. This process is the responsibility of the applicant.
All documents submitted must be in English. If official translations of documents are necessary, they must accompany verified copies of the originals. The originals of all entry qualification documents must be presented in person upon enrollment.
