The Doctoral School of Literary and Cultural Studies at the University of Szeged features an array of four-year programs tailored for international students. Specializations include Antique Literatures and Cultures, Comparative Literature and Culture, and various aspects of Hungarian Literature and Culture spanning old, early modern, classical, and modern periods. Additional areas of focus include Italian Literature and Culture, Literary Theory and Visual Culture Studies, as well as Literatures and Cultures in English, French, German, and Neolatin Literature and Culture, and Russian Literature and Culture.
The curricula integrate historical and theoretical frameworks of literature with artistic and medial illustrations, complemented by social and cultural insights. Most programs are conducted in English, with the exception of specific national programs available in their respective languages.
Students engage in workshop seminars designed to enhance their analytical and compositional skills, benefiting from personalized guidance throughout their research projects, culminating in the successful completion of their dissertations.
Applicants must hold a graduate or master's degree (or a higher qualification).
