Study Doctoral School of Law and Political Sciences at University of Szeged
The Doctoral School of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at the University of Szeged, established in 2002, focuses on enhancing the expertise of doctoral students in the domains of legal research methodology as well as the theoretical and practical aspects of law and political science. This program fosters an environment that emphasizes in-depth study and hands-on experience tailored to individual academic interests.
Students have the opportunity to engage in one of six distinct training programs that cover a range of topics within legal and social sciences. The faculty comprises experienced professors and associate professors who supervise and mentor students, along with emerging scholars who provide guidance on diverse research topics. This structure ensures robust academic support and facilitates the development of specialized knowledge in various fields, including but not limited to industrial relations, social security, public administration, international relations, and political sciences.
The program is designed for individuals with a keen interest in legal and social sciences, welcoming applicants not only from the field of law but also from other relevant disciplines, thus promoting a multidisciplinary approach to research and scholarship.

PhD Program Admission Requirements
Applicants must hold a graduate or master's degree (or higher) to be eligible for admission.
Application Requirements
- Completed application form
- Research proposal (2-3 printed pages in English) covering the following areas:
- Introduction
- Short literature review
- Knowledge or previous experience in the research area
- How the proposed research will contribute original and independent knowledge
- Aims and objectives of the research project
- Planned language for the dissertation
- Curriculum Vitae (in English)
- Scanned copies of the master’s degree certificate and its certified English translation, if applicable
- Scanned copy of the academic transcript to date (if relevant) and its certified English translation, if applicable
- Scanned copies of English language qualifications (B2 level or equivalent) if English is not the applicant’s native language
- Letter of acceptance from a potential supervisor (professor or lecturer at the doctoral school) regarding the research topic
- Two reference letters from university-level professors or instructors along with certified translations into English, if applicable (these letters are recommended and may enhance the chances of admission)
All entry qualification documents should be submitted in English or accompanied by a certified translation.
Language Requirements
Proficiency in English is required, with a minimum level of B2 (intermediate) or equivalent international exam certification.
Additional Requirements
Applicants must provide at least two references. These reference letters can be submitted either through the contact details of referees or uploaded directly alongside the application documents. The application system will facilitate communication with referees as needed.
