Program Description

Study Computer Science at University of Szeged

This program is designed to cultivate skilled computer scientists equipped with a strong theoretical foundation that supports long-term professional growth. Graduates are trained to independently create, develop, implement, and service information technology (IT) systems while also working collaboratively in team settings. The curriculum emphasizes the development of modeling skills necessary for tackling complex IT challenges across various fields.

Key academic topics include essential mathematical and fundamental computer science principles, with mandatory courses totaling 23 credits in mathematics and 24 credits in core computer science areas. Additionally, students can choose from elective core studies in mathematics and computer science (13 credits), elective computer science studies (24 credits), and gain practical experience through a project-oriented internship (240 hours) at an IT company or research laboratory. The program culminates in a thesis project, accounting for 30 credits, which allows students to engage deeply with a specific area of interest within the field.

Admission Requirements for the Master's Program in Computer Science

To apply for the program, applicants must possess an undergraduate or bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited institution.

Application Components

Applicants are required to submit the following documents:

  • Completed application form
  • Official BSc degree or higher from an accredited university
  • Proof of English language proficiency
  • Two recommendation letters from recognized academic professionals
  • Recent medical certificate confirming satisfactory general health
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Motivation letter
  • Online individual interview (via platforms such as Skype)
  • Copy of passport
  • Payment of non-refundable entrance examination and application fee

Language Requirements

English proficiency is required, with accepted qualifications including:

  • TELC or ECL B2
  • TOEFL IBT – minimum score of 72
  • RPDT – minimum score of 72
  • Cambridge FCE (First Certificate in English)
  • IELTS – minimum score of 5.5
  • LanguageCert B2 level

Additional Requirements

When applying, it is mandatory to include a motivation letter tailored for each program of interest.

Applicants should possess a minimum of 60 credits distributed across the following areas:

  • Mathematical and Natural Sciences: at least 15 credits in subjects such as calculus, numerical analysis, discrete mathematics, and linear algebra.
  • Computer Science: 15 credits in areas including logic, design and analysis of algorithms, automata and formal languages, theory of computing, and fundamentals of artificial intelligence.
  • Information Technology: at least 30 credits covering software technology, databases, information systems, computer architecture, and computer networks.

Applicants who do not meet the 60-credit requirement but have at least 30 credits in the specified subjects may be required to:

  • Complete a preparatory semester to address the missing coursework, or
  • Attend additional lectures at the start of the semester to gain the necessary knowledge.

Those with fewer than 30 credits in the required areas will be ineligible for admission to the MSc program.

Admission Scoring

The total admission score is based on a maximum of 100 points, allocated as follows:

  • Diploma qualification: up to 20 points
  • Grades of core bachelor courses: up to 50 points
  • Oral interview performance: up to 20 points
  • Additional achievements (e.g., publications or competitions): up to 10 points

Applicants must achieve a minimum of 50 points to qualify for admission.
