This four-semester Master of Science degree program, provided by the Bolyai Institute of the University of Szeged, offers a comprehensive exploration of various disciplines within Applied Mathematics. Aimed at students who possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a closely related field from an accredited institution, the program is structured to build a strong mathematical foundation during the initial semester.
Core topics covered include mathematical analysis, where students learn differential and integral calculus in both one and multiple variables; linear algebra, focusing on vector spaces, linear transformations, and eigenvalues; and stochastics, encompassing random variables, conditional probability, expectation, and key statistical theorems such as the law of large numbers and the central limit theorem.
As the program progresses, students select from three specializations starting in the second semester: Applied Analysis, Industrial Mathematics, and Financial Mathematics. The Applied Analysis specialization emphasizes the application of analytical methods in solving problems related to the natural sciences and industry. Conversely, Industrial Mathematics focuses on equipping students with practical mathematical skills tailored for engineering contexts. The Financial Mathematics specialization prepares students for roles in insurance, investments, and banking through a rigorous curriculum centered on financial applications of mathematics.
In the final two semesters, participants are required to complete a Master’s thesis, guided by a faculty member, and successfully pass an oral Final Examination before a committee to culminate their studies.
To be eligible for this program, applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree (or an equivalent qualification) in Mathematics from an accredited institution.
