Program Description
Here students can choose as an elective a linguistic or a literature culture module in accordance with their main field of interest.
Overview
The linguistic module includes courses on sociolinguistics, contrastive linguistics, language norms and conventions in the past and the present, varieties of German, etc. The Literature/culture module offers courses on literary schools, trends, genres in German literature, contemporary German literature, etc.
Syllabus
- 1st semester: Vergangenheit und Gegenwart der Literaturwissenschaft /Vorlesung, Methoden der Literaturwissenschaft /Seminar, Sprachgeschichte /Vorlesung und Seminar.
- 2nd semester: Repräsentative Epochen und Richtungen in der Literaturgeschichte /Vorlesung, Grundfragen der Sprachsoziologie /Vorlesung, Neueste Theorien der Kulturwissenschaft – Überblick /Vorlesung.
- 3rd semester: Schulen, Richtungen und Tendenzen in der Literaturwissenschaft/Seminar, Kontrastive Linguistik /Vorlesung, Medientheorie und Intermedialität /Seminar.
- 4th semester: Interkulturelle und intertextuelle Interpretationen /Seminar, Sprachtypologie /Seminar, Vergleichende Interpretationen literarischer Werke/Seminar.
Required Documents
- Copy of the BA degree in German Studies recognized in the EU (including a transcript of records) (official translation is needed)
- For students whose native language is not German a document certifying ECL C2 proficiency in the German language.
- Curriculum Vitae
- Letter of motivation (introduction, plus field of interest, etc.) in 3000 to 3500 characters.
- Copy of valid passport (page)or national ID
- Passport size photo
- Medical certificate, vaccination card (showing that you are immunized against HEP B), and HIV test
- The payment receipt of the application fee
