English and American Studies BA

The goal is to develop professionals with a high level of theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of English Studies and related areas of the Social Sciences.

Overview

This program provides a thorough understanding of the English language and of English-speaking peoples and cultures worldwide. In addition, it provides knowledge of the social, economic, and environmental characteristics specific to Hungary and to various English-speaking countries.

Syllabus

• 1st semester: The History of Philosophy, Language Development, The Language of English Literary and Cultural Studies.
• 2nd semester: The Language of English Linguistics, History of the United Kingdom.
• 3rd semester: Introduction to Applied Linguistics, History of the United States.
• 4th semester: American Literature and Culture, United States Society and Culture.
• 5th semester: Contemporary British Society and Culture, Modern British and Irish Literature, Introduction to Irish Culture.
• 6th semester: British Film and Visual Culture, American Popular Culture and Media, Ethnic Literature in the United States.
