Program Description
The program is designed for students who are interested in studying the history, politics, culture, and society of the United States of America.
Overview
American Studies Program offers a comprehensive overview of the field at the graduate level. Students are required to take core courses in the different subfields of American Studies as well as in related areas such as cultural studies and cultural history, the social sciences and research methodologies, historical linguistics, popular and visual culture, etc.
Syllabus
- 1st semester: Advanced Studies in American Literature, Advanced Studies in American History, Major Issues in American Studies, Cultural Studies in the US.
- 2nd semester: Theory and Practice of American Studies, Aspects of US Culture and Society, US Politics & Culture, Literature & Identity Politics, Historical Fiction in North American Literary Contexts.
- 3rd semester: American Literary History & Literary Theory, Research Methodology, American Political Institutions, American Literary Institutions, American Literature & Popular Culture.
- 4th semester: The History of American English, Media & New American Literatures, The Social Sciences in North American Studies, American Literatures in International Context.
Required Documents
- Certified and translated (if originals are not in English) copies of school transcripts showing satisfactory completion of senior high school.
- Europass CV in English
- Motivation letter (introduction plus field of interest, etc.) in 3000 to 3500 characters.
- Copy of valid passport or national ID
- A medical certificate, (please fill out the document and attach the serologic test results)
- Vaccination card (showing that you are immunized against HEP B)
- HEP A/B/C test*
- HIV test*
- Chest X-ray: Please attach the chest’s X-ray result (not the film!) in English/Hungarian! (Not older than 3 months)
- Transfer receipt of the EUR 140 application fee
- Acceptable online language exams:
- Duolingo online exam from score 135
