IT Security Maintenance at Corvinus University of Budapest – November 14–15 Update

Overview of the Firewall Upgrade

Corvinus University of Budapest will install a new firewall system on 14 and 15 November 2025. The upgrade is part of the university’s ongoing IT security strategy and is funded under project RRF‑2.1.2‑21‑2022‑00034. The firewall is the first line of defence against cyber threats, and its deployment will strengthen the university’s protection of student, faculty, and administrative data.

Impact on University Services

The installation requires a temporary shutdown of the internal network and all university‑hosted applications. The maintenance window starts at 14:00 on 14 November and is expected to finish at midnight on 15 November. During this period the following services will be unavailable:

  • Internet access, internal network, and all internal applications (Neptun, Moodle, SAP, Cusman, the university website, MyCorvinus app, internal storage, etc.)
  • Laboratory and classroom computers
  • VPN access (including two‑factor authentication)
  • Telephone service and Wi‑Fi, including dormitory Wi‑Fi

External services that run outside the university infrastructure—such as email, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint—will remain operational via your personal internet connection.

Preparation Tips for Students and Staff

To minimise disruption, consider the following steps before the maintenance begins:

  • Download course materials, lecture slides, and assignment files to your local device.
  • Schedule any critical online meetings or submissions for dates outside the maintenance window.
  • Inform your faculty advisor or department head if you anticipate needing access to university resources during the downtime.
  • Backup important data stored on university servers to a personal device or cloud storage.

For students in dormitories, plan to use the campus Wi‑Fi only after the maintenance is complete. If you rely on the university’s telephone system, use a mobile phone or alternative communication method during the outage.

During the Maintenance Window

While the firewall is being commissioned, the IT department will monitor the process and resolve any issues that arise. If you encounter problems accessing external services that rely on university authentication, contact IT support immediately. The following contact details are available:

After the Upgrade – What to Expect

Once the firewall is fully operational, all services should return to normal by midnight on 15 November. You may need to re‑authenticate to internal applications and re‑establish VPN connections. If you notice any lingering issues—such as slow network performance or inaccessible resources—report them to IT support as soon as possible.

Regular updates will be posted on the university news portal. Stay informed by following the University News page.

Take Action Now

Plan your work around the maintenance window, download essential materials, and keep your contact information up to date. If you have questions or need assistance, reach out to IT support via phone or email. After the upgrade, verify that all services are functioning correctly and report any problems promptly.
