Understanding the Current Landscape of Student Housing at ELTE
Student accommodation is a central part of the university experience. At Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), the Dormitory Centre and Housing Office work to match students with rooms that fit their needs, whether that be a quiet study corner, a communal social space, or a budget‑friendly option. Tracking how students feel about their housing helps the university improve the quality and reliability of its services.
What the 2025 Survey Aims to Discover
The 2025 survey focuses on three key areas:
- Decision Factors: Which aspects – price, location, roommate compatibility, or building facilities – most influence a student’s choice of accommodation?
- Current Satisfaction: How content are students with their current rooms, support staff, and maintenance procedures?
- Future Expectations: What improvements or new services would make the accommodation experience better for the next academic year?
With this data, the Dormitory Centre can target interventions, revise room allocation policies, and implement new support mechanisms that directly address student concerns.
Who Should Participate?
Any ELTE student who is currently living in university‑managed housing, or who applied for a room through the Dormitory Centre, is eligible to take part. Participation is voluntary and anonymous, and completing the questionnaire does not affect your standing or eligibility for future rooms.

To provide your feedback, follow these steps:
- Log in to Neptun.

- After submitting, you may enter your email (optional) for a chance to win an ELTE Shop gift card worth 10,000 HUF.
For assistance, contact [email protected]. Questions about technical problems with the questionnaire will also be handled through this address.
Why Your Feedback Matters
Student voices shape the policies that influence your day‑to‑day life. Data from the survey allows the university to:
- Identify common pain points, such as slow maintenance response times or uncomfortable room sizes.
- Quantify how many students find certain factors – like proximity to lecture halls – critical.
- Allocate resources more efficiently, for example by expanding housing units in high‑demand buildings.
Embodied in the results will be faculty‑driven action plans that address the most frequently cited issues, ensuring the accommodation experience meets the evolving expectations of the student body.
Common Themes in Housing Surveys
Location and Accessibility
Students often prioritize proximity to their main faculty or campus events. A nearby restroom, reliable public transport link, or an accessible entry for those with mobility constraints can be decisive factors.
Cost versus Comfort Trade‑Offs
Balancing budget with room quality is challenging. While many opt for fully furnished one‑person rooms at a competitive monthly fee, others may be willing to share accommodations to split costs.
Community and Social Integration
A key differentiator for many is the chance to connect with peers. Shared walls can foster friendship, but they can also become stressful if roommate expectations clash. Providing guidelines on roommate selection and conflict resolution can mitigate such friction.
Addressing Issues with Proactive Support
The Dormitory Centre employs several support teams:
- Housing Allocation Team: Works on matching students with rooms that align with their preferences.
- Maintenance Crew: Responds to repair requests, aiming for minimal downtime.
- **Housing Advisors:** Offer individualized counselling about room choice and financial planning.
By reviewing the survey data, these teams can prioritize improvements. For instance, if a significant number report delayed maintenance, a dedicated hotline or faster in‑house response schedule could be introduced.
Survey Results and Next Steps
Once the questionnaire closes on 23 November, the collected data will be compiled and anonymised. Survey findings will be presented in a report that outlines major strengths and areas for improvement. This report is scheduled for publication early in the following semester, giving students a clear view of how their input informs future policy changes.
What to Expect After Submitting?
After you finish the survey, you’ll receive an automatic confirmation email. If you entered your email, you will also be entered into the automated draw for ELTE Shop gift cards. No personal data will be used to identify you in the statistical analysis.
