Program Description
The German Studies BA program aims to provide students with basic knowledge in the core areas of German studies
Overview
During the BA course, students develop knowledge and skills in the following areas: German language skills at level C1; Basic linguistic knowledge, knowledge of the grammar of contemporary German; Literature of the German-speaking countries; Regional studies of the German-speaking countries.
Syllabus
- 1st semester: Sprache und Kultur der germanischen Völker, Landeskunde deutschsprachiger Länder.
- 2nd semester: Grammatische Übungen, Stil- und Textübungen.
- 3rd semester: Flexionsmorphologie, Deutsche Literatur und Kultur von der Frühen Neuzeit bis zur Klassik.
- 4th semester: Lexikologie, Deutsche Literatur und Kultur von der Romantik bis zur Realismus.
- 5th semester: Syntax, Deutsche Literatur und Kultur vom Naturalismus bis zur Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts.
- 6th semester: Sprachtypologie und kontrastive Linguistik, Zeitgenössische Literatur.
Required Documents
- Certified and translated (if originals are not in English) copies of school transcripts showing satisfactory completion of senior high school.
- Europass CV in English
- Motivation letter (introduction plus field of interest, etc.) in 3000 to 3500 characters.
- Copy of valid passport or national ID
- A medical certificate, (please fill out the document and attach the serologic test results)
- Vaccination card (showing that you are immunized against HEP B)
- HEP A/B/C test*
- HIV test*
- Chest X-ray: Please attach the chest’s X-ray result (not the film!) in English/Hungarian! (not older than 3 months)
- Transfer receipt of the EUR 140 application fee
- Official copy of the following language exam certificates:
- TOEFL (iBT internet-based): 66 points (www.ets.org/toefl)
- IELTS: Overall Band Score: 5.5 (www.ielts.org)
- Cambridge ESOL: B2 level (www.cambridgeenglish.org)
- TELC: B2 level (https://www.telc.net/en.html)
- ECL: B2 level (http://www.ecl-test.com/)
- Entrance Exam (personally or via Skype)
